Andre Turner delivered late heroics for Memphis State as Keith Lee scored 23 points to edge Oklahoma 63 61 in the NCAA Midwest Regional final. Turner and Lee sparked a tense finish, Turner missing the front end of a one and one with eight seconds left but the Tigers still held on. Oklahoma, the nation's top scoring team, was limited to its season low in points as Memphis State advanced to the next round.

Carroll Kuemper defeated Waterloo West 69-58 to win the Class 3A boys basketball championship. Brian David scored 21 points, Roger Gehling added 16, and Frank Molak 10 as Kuemper pulled away with an eight-point run in the fourth quarter. David grabbed 11 rebounds, and Kuemper finished 23-2.

McMurray tops 94 in YMCA indoor triathlon
Cedar Rapids athlete Bob McMurray posted the fastest overall time of 42 minutes 37 seconds to win the Central YMCA Surge into Spring indoor triathlon. Jill Dzikowski of Cedar Falls led among women with 50 minutes 33 seconds as 94 contestants competed in heats of six across pool swim, bike and run sections.
