March 24 1953 Daily Record reports Iowa forecast mostly cloudy with snow flurries and colder east portion Tuesday night. warmer later in week. Five day outlook calls for near normal temps and light precipitation. Also lists local div orce petition and traffic court actions, plus out-of-town births and obituaries for several towns. Includes city weather data and civil defense funding note.
A jury of eight women and four men heard evidence in a $50,000 wrongful death suit filed by Mrs. Henderson against the R. W. Rindernicht Company. Roland C. Henderson, 41, was electrocuted at Hawkeye Downs on July 24, 1951, when a crane contacted an overhead live wire. Judge J. E. Heiserman presided. The petition claims the crane’s operator negligence caused the fatal shock.
James E. Smith, 24, of Marion pled guilty to a drunk driving charge and was fined 300 dollars and costs by Judge Floyd Philbrick. He pled innocent Saturday but could pay 50 dollars down and 25 dollars a month. Police said he drove erratically early Saturday.
Judgments were awarded to plaintiffs on Tuesday in five account suits. Sartori Memorial Hospital won $146 against Keith and Juanita Conger. Banner Oil Company won $1,184.25 from Lloyd G. Carter. Aimee L. Coulter won $243 from Mack L. Duarte. St. Luke's Hospital won $143.05 from Clarence H. and Mary R. Ketron. Mercy Hospital won $145.88 from Ruth Payton, also known as Ruth C. Schwab or Mrs. Donald L. Clarke.
A. C. Schoenthaler filed a suit Tuesday against Mr. and Mrs. Warren Smith seeking 59.50 alleged due on an account.
Edward L. Whisler dismissed a mortgage foreclosure suit brought February 13 against John Matthews and Alma Matthews. The action was dropped promptly on Monday with no further proceedings disclosed.
Emmer L. Freeman died March 4 and a will was admitted to probate Tuesday naming Laura Freeman as sole heir and executrix without bond.

DES MOINES IA AP The Iowa Senate approved 47 to 0 a bill allowing Woodbury Linn and Black Hawk counties to publish district court dockets in newspapers if district judges direct. The measure moves to the governor after the house concurs in a minor title amendment.

C J Callahan 70 longtime Cedar Rapids senior claims officer for the Iowa State Employment Service died in Los Angeles. He lived in Cedar Rapids until last year moving to California. Survived by three sons John P Cedar Rapids Donald Mason City C J Callahan Jr Los Angeles. James died in World War II. Wife preceded him. Funeral at Cathedral church Dubuque Friday with burial in Dubuque.
Anton V Rudin cabinet maker at Smulekoffs for 11 years and World War I veteran dies at his home Sunday after a brief illness. Services set for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Beatty Bearle chapel with Rev C W Dehne of Salem Evangelical United Brethren Church. Burial in Linwood cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel.
Ferdinand A Geiger a Cedar Rapids resident and carpenter for 17 years died Sunday. Services will be at Turner chapel at 10 30 a m Thursday with Rev H G Schwegler of First Lutheran church presiding. Burial at Cedar Memorial cemetery with Veterans of Foreign Wars conducting military rites. Friends may call at the chapel.

Word arrived of Charles Merrill's death after a residence in Cedar Rapids and later Denver. Services and burial occurred in Denver. Sister Mrs. Laura Felt of Denver is listed as his survivor.

Mr and Mrs Reuben Hilmer aged 32 and 39 were arrested in Lisbon after a fight in a Cedar Rapids taxi driven by Floyd K Wilson. They pled guilty to intoxication and received 15 day sentences. They pled innocent to assault and battery charges and await trial set for April 6.
DES MOINES AP reports with one week left until the deadline the State Tax Commission shows growth in Iowa income tax filings. By March 12 it had 137126 returns totaling 5140668 dollars versus 129754 returns last year totaling 5650780 dollars. The filing deadline is March 31 postmark or delivery. The agency plans new outreach to employers and checks payroll lists to ensure all taxable workers pay.

In Beech Glen West Virginia a woman 48 Mrs Kermit Elswick was killed and two others injured when a car stalled while climbing a hill went out of control and plunged down a cliff into a train’s path. The driver Mrs Clifton Elswick 24 was thrown clear and tried to free her husband and mother in law as the locomotive approached. The couple escaped with minor injuries.
