GM recall expansion follows Georgia lawyer push

Six days after GM recalling 800000 Cobalts and G5s for a possible engine shutdown, Georgia lawyer Lance Cooper sent regulators a letter suggesting more faulty GM models exist. On Feb 25 GM doubled the recall to include Saturn Ions and Pontiac Solstices due to ignition switches that can shut off with key ring weight or jostling, cutting engine power and airbags. The probes seek why GM failed to spot the danger earlier amid deaths tied to the cars. Cooper is credited with pushing the issue forward.
