Burglaries occurred at Edgewood Animal Hospital 3434 Midway Dr NW between 6 p.m. Sunday and 7:15 a.m. Monday and at a construction trailer 3604 Pioneer Ave SE over a Friday to Monday window with tools valued at 2975 dollars. Also affected were MacDougall Dentist 3100 E Ave NW and All Iowa Agriculture 4400 Sixth St SW with undetermined money taken, an apartment at 3225 Pioneer Ave SE at 2:05 a.m. Sunday with nothing taken, and a garage at 1413 Fourth St NW from Sunday noon to Monday with tools of unknown value.
Monday dispatch notes show 5 canceled calls and 3 medical runs. Injury incidents occurred at Morris Drive Cedar Rapids Kesler Road NW and Blairs Ferry Road NE with times listed, plus 3 traffic crashes at Williams Boulevard with 80th Street SW and East Post Road with Mount Vernon Road SE in Cedar Rapids.
The Linn County medical examiner lists Robert Higdon 30 of Marion as dying at home in January from respiratory arrest due to multiple drug overdoses. Shane Perry 29 of Ainsworth Shawnee Court NW is ruled to have died by self harm from a gunshot wound to the head on March 14.
In Linn District Court Lumir Medulan Jr. pleaded guilty to third degree theft for writing over a thousand dollars in checks at Lindale Mall and was fined 500 dollars with 75 days jail. Christopher Kwapil pleaded guilty to two counts of third degree sexual abuse with a 15 year old on dates in 2002 and 2003, sentenced up to 10 years. Christopher Boyd pleaded guilty to one count of delivery of crack cocaine and one related substance charge with a deferred judgment and 37 days jail, Sept. 2 charge dismissed. Candice Tuer pleaded guilty to second degree theft for taking over 1000 dollars from Remedy Staffing, with five year suspended sentence and probation. concurrent two year suspended for forgery. Myron Snyder pleaded guilty to delivery of crack cocaine with a 10 year sentence and 1,000 dollar fine.
Cedar Rapids professor Marcel la David from the University of Iowa Law School will discuss the International Criminal Court at a Linn County United Nations Association meeting. The event is at Peoples Church Unitarian Universalist in Cedar Rapids at 7 p.m. Thursday and is free with a door reception.
Cedar Rapids organizers offer a Living With Laura workshop at Ushers Ferry Historic Village aligning with Girl Scout Laura Patch goals. The program runs Saturdays through April 23 with a final session April 28, featuring life of Laura Ingalls Wilder, one room schools, baking, sewing, and rag dolls.
