Perrin Ul's workshop moves to Athens and Vesey play
Perrin Ul relocates his workshop to Athens this month and has been commissioned to write a play about Denmark Vesey, the freed slave behind the 1822 Charleston rebellion. Smith modeled the Ohio program on the Iowa workshop he knew as a student and emphasizes teaching as integral to his career. He notes teaching clarifies process and structure and has returned to Iowa City several times. His son Tendai Kachingwe is a US freshman considering journalism, with his father urging liberal arts first and no early specialization.
