Linn County to fund disabled workshop programs with goodwill offer
Linn County supervisors proposed an 18587.52 dollar contract to Goodwill Industries to support 20 disabled workers until July when federal funds resume. Goodwill director John Watson offered to share funds with Kirkwood Skills Center and will present a counterproposal after meetings with Kirkwood and the mental health division.

The estate of Viola Burt Laubach of Geneseo Illinois leaves $277,994 to Cornell College. Daniel Laubach, her husband, born in Keota, attended West Chester High School and studied at Cornell from 1923 to 1925. He died in 1975 and Mrs Laubach in September 1981. The gift will be added to Cornell's endowment.

Farleys Agree to Close Open Dump in Linn County
Charles Farley and Joyce Farley will close an open dump at 3101 Spruce Ave SE by April 30 under a settlement with the Iowa Department of Environmental Quality. They pay a $1000 civil penalty for violating a cease maintenance order and may fill the site with clean rubble after notifying officials. The state sought over $150,000 in the Linn District Court.
