Doctor bills outpace inflation in new government study
A government report shows doctor fees rose 9.3 percent in 1977 versus 6.2 percent overall, with high earnings for pathologists and radiologists and most revenue from insurance. It notes insurers cover 80 percent of the population and stresses rising fees outpace inflation. The FTC may allow physician advertising to let customers compare fees.
