Cedar Rapids man’s texting law defense in 2016 crash case
A Cedar Rapids man charged with two counts of vehicular homicide by driving recklessly and reckless driving resulting in serious injury argues the 2017 texting while driving law cannot apply retroactively. Keith Furne, 35, allegedly texted while driving 80 mph before hitting a car carrying 16 year old Selena Apodaca and 13 year old Isabella Severson, killing them. His motion seeks a pretrial hearing before an April 10 trial in Story County District Court.
