The Iowa City VA Health Care System opened 15 private rooms on the seventh floor replacing 1950s shared spaces. The $1.9 million project, funded by the 2009 ARRA, includes individual climate control and ceiling lifts, with improvements to linen and supply areas.
Linn County supervisors approve a policy allowing permit holders to carry concealed firearms on most county buildings while banning open carry and all weapons at the courthouse jail and juvenile center. The 4-1 vote includes dissent by Linda Langston. Visitors pass metal detectors. licensed carriers may store guns in vehicles on county lots.
