The Iowa House approved an 88-6 measure to protect spa members from losses when spas fold. The bill requires deposits in a trust fund or a bond, and gives buyers a three day cancellation window. It moves to the Senate, championed by Attorney General Tom Miller.

A Preston man, Jerry Pearson 32, died from multiple injuries after a one car crash one mile west of Monmouth while riding with Royce Currie 40. Currie was eastbound on Highway 64 when the car crossed the road and rolled in a ditch. Currie faces drunken driving charges. he is in critical condition at University Hospitals Iowa City. Kenneth L. Houston, rural Monmouth, was hospitalized with chest injuries.
