Cedar Rapids officials named Kristopher N. Booker and Brandon Toepfer as the individuals involved in Monday morning shooting at 639 40th St SE. Booker, 30, shot Toepfer, 35, then died by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot. Toepfer was hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries.
Cedar Rapids police probe a fatal hit run on Sixth Street SW near 3200 block. Lovell Robinson Jr., 29, of Coralville, died after witnesses saw him stumble on the shoulder and a Silverado truck may have struck him. Autopsy and toxicology results awaited. driver not charged yet.
Kory A. Doeppke, 20, of Elkader, faces two counts of homicide by vehicle while under the influence after a February 16 crash in Clayton County killed Brady Edwards and Izaiah Drinkwater, both 16. His blood alcohol content exceeded 0.08 percent. He was arrested and held on $20,000 bond. The charge carries up to 25 years in prison.
A Cedar Rapids man, Darian L. Gossett, 21, was stopped on Highway 218 for speeding near 2:23 a.m. An AK-9 sniff led police to about 350.5 grams marijuana, 39 cannabis oil containers, 11 marijuana edibles packages, 39.9 grams marijuana wax, 4.4 grams meth, two pipes, two grinders and cash. He faces multiple drug charges and paraphernalia counts.
