Bottle bill debate ends for Iowa session amid recycling talk
Iowa lawmakers wrapping up this session consider House File 575 dead as advocates push curbside recycling and broader waste programs. Grocers and the Iowa Beverage Association seek to repeal the nickel deposit, shift to private curbside recycling, and expand bottle coverage, while redemption centers warn of job losses and higher taxes. House sponsor Rep Andy McKean presses to preserve the 5 cent deposit on alcoholic and carbonated drinks and extend coverage, balancing incentives for centers with broader container rules.
