Ben Ries drawing raises funds for cancer foundation
An 800 strong crowd viewed a pencil portrait of Ben Ries, a 12 year old brain cancer victim who loved God and dogs, sold for 8500 dollars at a Cedar Rapids auction to support the Aiming for a Cure Foundation and the Children's Hospital of Iowa. The fifth annual event netted nearly a quarter million dollars for pediatric cancer care, with corporate donors and auctions driving the total.

Easement protects Allamakee land in Iowa bluff region
Illinois couple Patrick Burke and Nancy Rigler secured a conservation easement with the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation to guard 130 acres near Lansing Allamakee County. Pheasants Forever president Howard Vincent announced the 2009 Pheasant Fest will be Feb 6 7 and 8 at the Exhibition Hall Allianz Energy Center marking the group s first Wisconsin hosting of the national event.
