Kansas dominates Portland State with rim rattling dunks and precise shooting to resemble a No. 1 seed intent on breaking NCAA tournament frustration. Senior guard leads attack as KU lands early message of title chase and dominance.
Kansas jumped to an 85-61 victory led by Brandon Rush with 18 points as Darrell Arthur and Darnell Jackson threw down early dunks. The Jayhawks dominated the floor, while a overwhelmed Portland State team struggled to match the pace in their first NCAA tournament appearance.
Xavier, the No. 3 seed, overcame an 11 point second half deficit to beat Georgia 73 61 in the West Regional. Derrick Brown posted 19 points and 11 rebounds while Josh Duncan added 20 as Xavier rode 27 free throws to advance and set up a showdown with Purdue.
Michigan State uses depth to beat Temple 72 61 in the South Regional opener. Raymar Morgan led with 15 points while Drew Neitzel struggled. Chris Allen and freshmen Kalin Lucas and Darrell Summers added scoring as MSU advances to face Pittsburgh or Oral Roberts. Temple’s Mark Tyndale scored 16.
Wisconsin and Kansas State led wins while Indiana and others posted scores. Highlights include Notre Dame over George Mason and Marquette edging Kentucky with several late finishes. multiple NCAA tournament matchups listed with game times and venues.
