Democrats fail to shrink Bush tax cuts in budget clash
The House rejected a Democratic move to cut Bush tax reductions, while Senate debates a GOP blueprint for 2004. Key senators McCain and Hollings indicated opposition to halving the $726 billion plan by 2013, as Bush wartime unity and a $2.2 trillion budget loom.

Colorado and Wyoming begin return to normal after blizzard
Denver passes slowly to normal as flights resume with two runways open at the airport. A storm dumped up to 7 feet across 500 miles, killed at least three, and left 5 to 6 foot drifts blocking streets. Interstate 70 closure and avalanche danger prompted evacuations and blasting to reduce slides.

In Key West Florida six men were charged with hijacking a Cuban airliner at knifepoint and diverting it to the Florida Keys to seek asylum in the United States.
