Sam the Snowman Vandal-Proofing With Water Ice

Joe Baretich and his wife Margery found their snowman in Cedar Rapids damaged during the night. To deter further acts they drilled holes in the figure on Second Avenue SE and filled them with water so the melt would form ice and reinforce the snowman against vandals.

Winter Storm Delivers Snow Ice and Wind Across Iowa

A major winter storm swept East Iowa bringing up to 11 inches of snow and strong winds. Dozens of crashes occurred with two deaths in north and north central Iowa and multiple injuries, including Carolyn Westerbeck in Elkader with head injuries.
