Iowa lawmakers moved a mortgage measure toward Gov. Ray after a fast Senate approval and reluctant lender acceptance. The bill lets lenders take mortgage assumptions without raising rates for good credit buyers and expands points credits while adjusting how interest rates are set.
AFL CIO President George Meany blasts business as price gouging after government data show fourth quarter pretax profits up 26.4 percent from a year earlier and 9.7 percent from the third quarter. At least three Cedar Rapids dealers will shift operations this spring. Cedar Rapids Dodge will move from Handler Motors’ site to 1919 Collins Road NE, near Duffy Schamberger AMC and Jeep, with a May 1 target for the move. Bruce McGrath Pontiac would take over the AMC-Jeep dealership, while Schamberger Motors faces closure after the transfer is approved.
