Chicago and Des Moines markets report officialTuesday receipts of cattle hogs and sheep with hogs steady to 25 lower and cattle mostly steady to 50 lower. Prices vary by weight and grade with multiple ranges across feeder, slaughter and utility categories.
In Waterloo buyers see steady quotes for hogs with sows and boars listed. Price ranges cover 160 to 400 pounds with varying cents per pound across weight brackets from 12.00 to 14.90 dollars.
Sioux City Livestock reports receipts of 13 000 cattle with 290 on bars. Slaughter steer and heifer market slow and not established. One load prime 1 225 lb steer brings 30.00 dollars.
Receipts 17 000 cattle with calves 100. Slaughter steers steady to weak with some 25 cents lower. Heifers mostly steady. strongest demand for choice. Most choice steers 26.50 to 27.50. high choice and prime up to 28.50. Good and choice heifers 22.00 to 27.50. most choice 26.00 to 27.00.
Prices for Cedar Rapids hogs were steady Monday with butchers weighing 200-220 pounds selling at 15.35 to 15.50 dollars and some at 15.60 to 15.85 delivered at the plant. Packers 330 pounds and under brought 14.10 to 14.60, with lighter weights fetched 15 cents less per 10 pounds up to 300 and 25 cents less beyond 300. Wilson is out temporarily on calves. Also listed are eggs and oats prices, wool, soybeans, and Dow Jones averages from Francis, duPont & Co.

Police seized about $20,000 worth of shoes in a Roxbury apartment raid. Herman Woods was charged with receiving and selling stolen goods. Shoes, valued at about $20 retail, were sold for $2 to $2.50 each, believed stolen from a warehouse in small lots.
CHICAGO AP grain markets showed mixed trading Monday with March contracts pressured by looming delivery end on Tuesday. Wheat moved up and down within 4 cents, corn slipped 3 cents to a 4 cent gain, oats climbed 4 to 34 cents, and rye ranged 1 14 to 4 cents.
AP reports Chicago prices for grains with No 1 yellow hard wheat at 220 percent, corn No 2 at 1.17, various yellow corn grades from 1.13 to 1.09, oats at 78¢ to 79¢, soybean sales unavailable, soybean oil at 7.55, barley eating at 1.15 to 1.25, feed 93¢ to 1.05.
AP reports steady wholesale prices across butter eggs and live poultry in Chicago markets. Butter receipts at 951000 show unchanged prices. eggs show a 3 cent dip with grade A and other quality categories listed. Live poultry Friday receipts total 1000 pounds with White Rock fryers and roasters priced steady. Potatoes arrive 293 with on track 363 and state and regional price references included.
New York reports mixed dairy demand and scores from USDA data. Creamery buyers show fair demand with 93 score at 59 cents and 92 score around 58 to 59 cents. Extras and standards items with weight 40 to 50 pounds appear at set prices. details include percentages and weights.
Lee Wells filed a Monday request to rezone land on the north side of Highway 150 from B-2 to B-1 to permit motel use and curb taverns. The Planning Commission had earlier recommended denial, and the council referred the revision for full consideration. A separate letter from George A. Skalsky urging business zoning on 16th Avenue SW was also referred to the Planning Commission.
Richard E. Crane Jr announces resignation as vice-president and director of Guaranty Bank and Trust Co effective last Wednesday. He previously served as teller and clerk from 1946 to 1947, worked in New York and Chicago, then returned as assistant cashier and became vice-president and director in 1952.

Fay I Ross 37 of 705 Second Ave SW appeared in court today on a second offense drunk driving charge and was given until Friday to plead. He was arrested Saturday by highway patrol officers after an erratic camber on Highway 151 miles east of Marion.

The U S Supreme Court unanimously voided a $10 loitering fine and a $10 disorderly conduct fine against Sam Thompson of Louisville saying the record lacked any evidence of guilt. Justice Black stated convicting without evidence violates due process.

Julius Sodini 69 owner of the Candy Box cafe in Oelwein died Sunday night from a heart attack. He had closed the cafe but kept a candy store. Survived by wife, son Roger, daughter Mrs. Garland Harmon, four brothers and two sisters. Services set for Wednesday at Sacred Heart church.
