Iowa Keeps Retail Licenses Off Until June First
Iowa merchants will not need to obtain new retail licenses required by the three point tax law until June 1, the state board of assessment and review announced. A supplemental letter noted April 1 activation but no tax until July and urged merchants to start keeping gross proceeds records before April 1. The board has not approved a bracket system for passing the tax on to customers. A Des Moines retailer meeting proposed no tax on under 15 cents, 1 cent for 15 to 65 cents, 2 cents for 66 to 99 cents, and 2 percent for $1 or more.
