Lead testing targets Cedar Rapids homes for child safety
Cedar Rapids and Linn County Public Health test homes for lead exposure in an aid program focusing on the oldest Cedar Rapids neighborhoods. The effort uses X-ray fluorescence to detect hidden lead in paint and wood finishes and creates mitigation plans including repainting, replacing window frames, soil cover, or soil removal when needed.
