FEMA shifts climate risk into disaster preparedness rules
Beginning in March 2016 states seeking FEMA mitigation funds must assess climate change threats to communities and governors must sign off on hazard mitigation plans. While some states have begun integrating climate risks, many have not under older guidelines. The policy could spark political tensions with Republican governors who have dismissed man made climate change. Environmentalists have pressured FEMA to include global warming in guidelines for years.
