Cedar Rapids Officer's attacker jailed for 25 years

Jose Rockiett, 18, of Cedar Rapids, received 25 years in prison on two robbery counts and one each of willful injury and interference with official acts, with parole eligibility in 15 years. Officer Tim Davis suffered a brain injury in the March 29 assault after a handgun attack. Davis's wife says the injury will affect his ability to work and his family life.

Sinclair smokestack repair costs slip below city estimate

The Sinclair smokestack at 1600 Third St. SE could be repaired for 420425 dollars, less than half the city's 1 million estimate. Naughton Eyes National Czech and Slovak Museum Site

Gail Naughton, president of the National Czech and Slovak Museum & Library, views the planned site from a second-story Czech Village office. She says the project marks another step in Cedar Rapids recovery as the district on 16th Avenue SW rebuilds after the June 2008 flood. opening is slated for late 2012 near the relocated museum and its addition.

Czech Village St Josephs Day Parade Marks Patron Saint

Czech Village hosts a St Josephs Day parade with a 10 am lineup at 12th Ave and Fourth St SE. The procession moves at 11 am from this site over the Bridge of Lions into Czech Village along 16th Ave SW by the Cedar River.
