Red Cross chapter near funds squeeze after costly fires
The Grant Wood Area Chapter of the Red Cross in Cedar Rapids has only $10,000 left in its 2001 budget after responding to 47 calls between December and March. It has spent $21,000 on the 2121 Blairs Ferry Rd apartment fire and expects to spend another $10,000 for victims. The chapter serves Delaware, Iowa, Jones, Johnson and Linn counties and continues operating despite limited funds. Residents helped, including Deb Jackson and Steven McNamara, praised the aid and plan to donate later.
