Sales tax plan faces strong opposition in Corridor counties

Linn and Johnson counties would become donors to a statewide school funding pool under proposals to raise the sales tax to 6 percent. Corridor lawmakers, led by Sen. Bob Dvorsky and Rep. Rob Hogg, argued the move favors urban districts and shifts funding unfairly away from local option taxes. They warned Linn and Johnson could be paying the bill for others for years, while Polk County would wait for its local option tax to expire.
