Midwest markets report Cedar Rapids Wilson Foods quoting hogs at 49 to 50 dollars with a 6 dollar discount on light weights and stepped discounts for heavier hogs. Spring lambs steady at 54 to 58 and 58 to 62 dollars, buying 7 to 10 a.m. Waterloo Roth Packing Co lists market hogs at 49.00 to 49.50 dollars.
Des Moines market news shows live hens prices mostly down slight demand is good for deferred shipments. Farm eggs steady to mixed with Easter demand lifting some grades. Hog trade slow to moderate with lower prices for many weights. Dressed meats and pork markets show steady to light demand with modest price moves. Receipts estimate for hogs 80,000 today and 110,000 yesterday.
USDA Friday report from Chicago shows butter prices paid to delivery rising for 92 score and 93 score grades with quotations from 1.45 to 1.49 and 1.47 to 1.49 respectively. Retail carton prices for Grade A extra large to medium range 69 to 72 cents, 67.5 to 68 cents, and 60.5 to 61 cents respectively.
Meat futures traded on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange closed with mixed ranges. Live cattle and related contracts showed varied results as traders weighed demand signals and supply expectations.

In Omaha federal court, popcorn growers led by Nebraska association challenge USDA to include popcorn in the payment-in-kind crop-swap program, arguing popcorn is corn and should be covered. Officials say the program targets surplus reduction and that popcorn has never been part of feed-grain programs.
The Kinze versus Deere corn planter patent case nears a first phase close. Friday saw jury instruction talks with Judge Edward McManus in Cedar Rapids and Deere seeking a directed verdict on Brass Hansen Pust patent issues while Kinze presents Zarley testimony challenging patent validity. closing arguments could occur as soon as Tuesday with cross exam planned for Monday.
Houston officials disqualified Clifton Smith of Lyford’s 1255 pound Chianina after an Oklahoma veterinarian cared for the steer for about two months before the show. Smith admitted the animal was not in his care, citing hoof disease and an extended stay with the Cordell, Oklahoma vet. He said he did not know a rule existed.
Iowa County Farm Bureau hosts a village festival at Williamsburg City Hall with a quilt show five prize categories and craft demonstrations from 7 to 9 PM on March 22. Entries for quilts taken 6:30 to 7 PM. Demonstrations include basket making tile painting cross stitch and more. Porkettes pork cookery demo and a program 8 to 9 PM features port beef and lamb with Gerry Lackender addressing Farm Bureau women.
