Linn County Changes Since 1859 Map Drawn by Chicago Lithographer
A six foot Linn County map from 1859 in the Michel family reveals former town layouts and proposed rail lines. It traces early settlements from Cedar Rapids to Center Point, lists towns like Marion and Buffalo, notes population figures by township, and shows vanished places such as Ely Fairfax Lindon and Paddington, while marking mills along Cedar Rapids’ waterways. The map aids a courthouse historical project, with researchers noting pioneer landowners and shifting county boundaries over time.
