Demolitions Resume in Cedar Rapids Flood Districts
Demolition work restarts as warm weather returns in Cedar Rapids flood affected neighborhoods. In 2010 hundreds of homes mostly in southeast southwest and northwest quadrants were razed, including a 19th century brick dwelling near A Street SW and an historic Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church site. Legacy structures such as Besler’s Brickyard area homes and former neighborhood stores also face removal as permits surface. Mt. Zion relocated to C Avenue NE after flood damage.
