DNR Ends Iowa Trumpeter Swan Rearing Program
Iowa Department of Natural Resources will phase out its 18 year trumpet swan restoration program and hand it to the private sector. The agency will still offer expertise while local sites retain breeding stock and participate in spring relocations. Officials estimate winter feed costs at about 50 dollars per swan and note Iowa needs around 50 wild nests for a self sustaining population.

The Decorah district proposes a 90 cent increase to 16.74 per thousand for next year to fund a high school remodeling project. A public hearing is set for 6 p.m. Monday.
