Hunger Famine Seen Fueling Future Conflicts Says Lehman
Area CITY AP Director General Herbert Lehman of UNRRA warned that failure to relieve hunger could seed future wars. In prepared remarks to UNRRA's fourth council, he said cooperation among nations is possible though imperfect and cited UNRRA's reach, including 7,000,000 tons shipped and 725,000 displaced persons repatriated since September. He urged widening an international food board and warned political refugees and conflicted camps complicate relief efforts. The U.S. stated UNRRA should not extend beyond 1947 in Europe and mid-1947 in Asia.

Anderson Seeks Grain Feeding Cut to Help World Hunger
Secretary of Agriculture Clinton P Anderson urged farmers at a Farm Bureau meeting in Truman’s home county to sacrifice by feeding livestock less grain and placing grain on the market to aid starving peoples. He said it remains profitable to feed grain at higher prices but stressed a moral duty to conserve feed, save food, and meet 1946 production goals, urging Americans to cut bread consumption by three slices daily amid a global shortfall.

UNRRA Faces Hardship in Albania Wheat Aid System
UNRRA official F L Woodward reports Albanian village councils distribute American wheat and flour only to families with under 2.2 bushels reserves. Snowbound roads and lack of railroads slow deliveries from Italy, with light native craft and donkeys carrying grains to mountain communities. Albanian diet relies on bread, cornmeal, and imported wheat as drought and war decimated livestock and crops. Woodward, returning March 7, aims to rebuild an American agricultural school and monitor the 1945 harvest aided by shipments.
