Amelia Earhart departed Oakland airport on a world flight bound for Honolulu 2400 miles away. She flew with navigator Capt Harry Manning and Fred Noonan, plus Paul Mantz as adviser, in the Lockheed Electra. Spectators crowded the runway as the plane rose and cleared the parked cars. Earhart’s husband George Putnam bade her farewell before she crossed the bay and into the night sky.

Tempe Arizona AP reported former governor and country physician Dr B B Moeur died at his home Tuesday after rising from obscurity to serve two terms during the Depression era. He led Arizona through tough times and left a lasting political legacy.
Secretary of State Cordell Hull offered a second apology to Germany over Fiorello LaGuardia's remarks about Adolf Hitler. He urged all involved to discuss calmer topics and avoid further incendiary exchanges amid protests from German officials.
Berlin reports say the Schwarze Korps and Julius Streicher's Stuermer issued fresh anti Jewish barbs against the United States. The attack appeared in print and in car toons as part of a continued propaganda push.

About 700 workers at the Westinghouse Electric Lima plant will share an $8,000 bonus, to be distributed early in April, announced by plant manager R. F. Frenger.

Pittsburgh reports a labor peace milestone as John J. Lewis committee and U.S. Steel subsidiaries sign a comprehensive arbitration contract with no work suspensions. The deal covers Tennessee Coal, Iron and Railway, Columbia Steel, National Tube, American Steel and Wire, and Carnegie-Illinois. American Bridge excluded. Murray says talks with American Bridge will start next week.
Homer Martin, international president of the United Automobile Workers, said he would recommend ending the Chrysler strike if the union gains collective bargaining rights. He urged adherence to the Wagner Act, noting the strike shadows would lift quickly once law is followed. He added workers prefer not to strike but will enforce rights.

George Shirley McCorkle 40 a World War veteran from Palo stabbed himself in the kitchen of the Warren McClintock home Wednesday noon after returning from Keyesville Virginia. Coroner Dr B L Knight and Deputy Sheriff Larry Condon state death by self action with no inquest. He left a mother Elsie McCorkle and is survived by aunt Ella Carrier sister Anita Clark and brother Lloyd. Funeral arrangements pending arrival of Mrs McCorkle. He was born May 23 1896 in Shellsburg.
