Train strikes Cedar Rapids squad car during chase
A Cedar Rapids police car pursuing a white SUV was hit by an eastbound Union Pacific train at Otis Road and Cole Street SE. The chase driver escaped. officers unharmed. The destroyed squad car, near end of its life cycle, was to be replaced next fiscal year. A chase review is underway.

Waterloo moves to buy Sans Souci Island island in Cedar River
Waterloo plans to acquire the 26 acre wooded parcel on Sans Souci Island for 53000, with a signed agreement to purchase the remaining 134 acres for 255000 under a federally funded buyout. The 2008 flood damaged 20 homes on the island tip and those homes have been demolished.

Iowa Lottery to roll out new computer system across 2400 outlets
The Iowa Lottery will begin installing a new computer system with 19 inch screens and wireless ticket checkers at about 2400 retail sites beginning the first week of April. The upgrade aims to speed service, reduce lines, and boost sales of Powerball Mega Millions. Full functionality should debut by July 3 with instant ticket scanning available for lotto games.
