Vinton educator grows trees into thriving nursery
John Frazier of Vinton built Frazier Nursery on 13 acres east of Vinton since 1994 with 25 shrubs and 30 tree varieties this spring. A 20 year veteran elementary teacher in the Vinton Shellsburg district, he plants up to two acres of trees an hour using a pull behind planter and has put in 50 000 trees. He aims to blend teaching and stewardship, not quit teaching, to instill environmental values in students at West Elementary where many trees were planted by his classes.
