Gladys Alma Ross age 70 of 2253 C street SW died Tuesday after a lingering illness. Born May 3, 1900 in Fairfield Illinois she is survived by three sons Willis Briggman Dale Briggman and Dean Briggman a daughter Mrs Virgil Rossow ten grandchildren and several great grandchildren a sister Iva Hough and a brother George Little. Services will be held at Teahen chapel at 2 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Charles R. Mehaffey of Asbury United Methodist church. Burial will be Cedar Memorial. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Thursday at the Teahen chapel.

Surviving are two great grandchildren.
The Cedar Rapids city council received a third protest petition against a freeway route proposed for the southeast quadrant south of First Avenue. Signed by 110 people, the petition argues the highway would ruin cedar woods and natural resources and suggests widening First Avenue or circling the city. Previous protests total 243 signatures as Iowa Highway Commission consultants study corridor options to ease traffic on First Avenue.
In Kuala Lumpur the Malaysian House of Representatives voted unanimously to grant former Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman a tax free gratuity of 66666 dollars and a monthly pension of 1333 dollars.

Larry J. Greiner, 21, of 626 Sixteenth Avenue SW, began a 30 day term in Linn county jail after his appeal from Cedar Rapids municipal court convictions for traffic offenses was dismissed. He had received three consecutive 30 day terms for charges tied to a high speed chase at speeds up to 105 mph, with police pursuing him for about 15 miles through southwest Cedar Rapids and Fairfax area. He faced fines for attempting to elude police and for lacking a valid Iowa license, while district court earlier found him guilty of reckless driving.
Linn county supervisors approved a resolution Tuesday allowing medallion-type trailers outside trailer courts. The measure amends the building code, not the zoning regulations as The Gazette reported yesterday.
The Cedar Rapids city council filed plat and schedule for the 1971 concrete street paving program. A public hearing is set for April 14. Estimated at 401,905.81 dollars, it covers 2.05 miles of paving on 11 streets and two alleys with 182,146.40 dollars to be paid by property assess ments and the city covering the rest. London reports Huntingdon Hartford, American supermarket magnate, sold a Burne-Jones work Saus Ven eris in praise of Venus for 79,200 dollars, a new world record for the type. DES MOINES AP Sen Harold E Hughes will be present Saturday at 11 am when local businessmen open a downtown Des Moines office to promote Hughes as a 1972 presidential candidate. The 910 Walnut Street office will gather and disseminate information and coordinate campaign efforts statewide. A Hughes for President office exists in Washington DC but he has not announced candidacy.
LOS ANGELES AP reports the second of quintuplets born ten weeks premature to the Paul Kaplans died Wednesday. The three surviving infants were listed in guarded condition.
