University of Iowa students join hundreds of peers for an alternate spring break in Cedar Rapids, volunteering in flood recovery. Tom Fisher from Bettendorf says the trip offers exercise and aid, while ISU members help gut interiors and build decks for flood victims, highlighting cross campus cooperation.
Senator Grassley urged the president to keep his pledge against earmarks while Democrats Harkin Braley and Loebsack backed about 44 million in Iowa projects in the 410 billion bill. Grassley admitted Republicans have earmarks too and called for a thorough review of their purpose and amount. The president agreed on the need for scrutiny.

The funding includes Coe College science grants 476000 Cedar Rapids Symphony 381000 Linn Community 249000 Highway 100 extension 950000 Edgewood Road to Highway 30 332000 and University of Iowa programs 1.9 million for biomedical discovery and 951000 health and public health efforts.
