GOP plan taps cash reserve to fund Iowa budget
Iowa Republicans propose a 2005 budget of 4.6 billion dollars using about 160 million from the state cash reserve to finance a 109 million K 12 schools increase and 5 million each for public safety and corrections while keeping taxes stable. The plan spends 170 million less than Gov Vilsack proposed and relies on tax relief for local property tax credits and no new tax hikes. Senator Jeff Angelo says the plan avoids tax increases and supports education and public safety amid a Democratic pushback.
