Bowen Urges Study of Human Problems and Technology
University of Iowa President Howard R. Bowen told a senate subcommittee he unqualifiedly endorses a proposed select committee on technology and the human environment. He urged a broad long range program, including a national welfare based accounting system, systems analysis, and ongoing social trend study groups to guide policy and priorities. Bowen warned technology pressures on resources and congestion but said tech offers solutions and urged mobilizing knowledge across social sciences to improve life. He stressed the need to broaden technology to include humanities and arts and to focus on political decision making and priorities.
