Chicago hog prices reach the best level for March in six years as an 18 000 Monday run and improved pork outlet activity lift quotations. Early top at 10 85 a 25 cent jump from Saturday with heavy hogs selling near 9 65 for 400 pounds. Severe winter slows cattle and lamb trade while lamb outlook grows 6 percent larger year over year.
U S Department reports hog receipts 18 000 with 8 000 direct and prices up to 10 85 for 169 250 lb hogs and 10 10–10 60 for 250 300 lb. 400 lb load at 9 65. Cattle receipts 15 000 with calves 1 500 and steers lower, best fed 10 50, bulk 7 50–9 25, vealers steady. Sheep and lambs light. bids mixed with lambs around 10 25 and Texas wethers 7 00.
The Omaha livestock market shows 10 500 hog receipts with varied weights and price shifts from Friday, including top hogs at 10.15 and average costs around 9.82 for 255 pounds. Calves and cattle receipts total about 10 000 with slow to weak sales for yearlings and steers, cows weak, beef cows 4.50 to 45.00, stockers active up to 7.75, and several loads of yearlings and calves priced near 8.75 and higher. Wool lambs and sheep totals include 28 loads wooled lambs and 4 loads ewes with lambs weaker but shearing lambs up to 9.90, bulk around 10.00.
U S Department of Agriculture report shows cattle receipts at 4100 head in South St. Paul. Slaughter steers sold slowly with bids generally 25 cents lower. Common to medium fed steers ranged from 5 75 to 7 25 while good medium weights held at about 8.00. heifers and stockers noted but not detailed.
Combined hog receipts at 20 concentration yards and 9 packing plants in interior Iowa and southern Minnesota for 48 hours ending 8 a.m. Monday totaled 38,300, up from 31,200 a week earlier and 24,200 a year ago. Prices mostly steady. spots 5 to 10 cents lower. Trade fair, feeding light. Prices by weight range listed for various hog classes and packing saws.
U S Dept of Agriculture reported 6000 cattle with few early sales. Steers yearlings and stockers steady to down, most cows around 5.25, best fed heifers above 7.00, small calves up to 28. Hogs receipts 7000 with prices 10 to 15 cents lower for mediuns, heavies steady. Top hog price 10.05 with lighter weights around 9.60 to 9.90. Sheep receipts 7500 with no early fat lamb activity, undertone steady and best fed around 10.25.
The Associated Press reports hog prices in Mason City and Ottumwa. Mason City shows steady to good prices for 140 to 425 pounds with ranges from about 8.40 to 9.75 dollars. Ottumwa lists declines of around 10 cents with the same weight brackets and prices from roughly 8.40 to 9.76 dollars depending on weight.
Hogs in Austin Minnesota show steady demand with price ranges for different weights. 180-250 lbs fetch 9.75 to 10.05 per cwt, 250-290 lbs 9.45 to 9.75, 290-350 lbs 9.15 to 9.45, packing sows 275-550 lbs 8.20 to 8.90 per cwt.
Hogs remain unchanged on the local market with no grade changes on Monday and the top price steady at 10.10. Other local markets also report no changes.

Chicago bids show butter and egg futures with storage and freshness grades. Contracts list March and November butter standards and April and October eggs standards with accompanying price quotes and grades.
New York reports a modest uptick in medium and low priced rail liens as freight movement outlook improves. Government issues fell, while corporate bonds and some foreign issues showed mixed movement amid global tensions and portfolio lightening.

Mrs Daisy Brostmeyer born Daisy White in Cedar Rapids February 21 1891 died in Springfield Illinois after a lingering illness. She is survived by husband G R Brostmeyer a son Lloyd Japhet sisters Mrs Fred Fitch Mrs A J Smith Ted White L T White Mrs Frank Shireman Carl White and John White. Body to be brought to Cedar Rapids for burial in Oak Hill cemetery. Funeral announced later.
Word arrives for William H. Spicer from 1852 Ellis boulevard NW of the death of his son W. H. Spicer age 65 at home in Mammoth Springs Arkansas Sunday afternoon. He is survived by his father age 86, his wife and two daughters of Mammoth Springs, and two sisters Mrs Frank Rawson of Cedar Rapids and Mrs Harriet Appelgate of Maquoketa.
Cedar county district court announces thirty eight new cases for the term starting Monday March 23. Criminal actions include the state versus Roy Kinnan for theft of coal and the state versus Frank Williams for breaking and entering. Other cases include multiple law and equity suits with parties such as Arthur Wagner versus B P Otto et al and First Trust Joint Stock Land Bank versus B B Long executor.
Special to The Gazette. Reid Leine man from Vinton fell asleep at the wheel near Belle Plaine around 6am on U S 30 and side swiped a Webster City Truck Co. truck. His car suffered heavy damage and he sustained a sprained shoulder. The truck and its merchandise Were damaged.

The Oxford players of the Methodist church presented the drama The Rose on the Dial before a large audience at a union meeting of Christian Congregational Methodist and Presbyterian churches Sunday evening in the Methodist church. After the production Mr and Mrs Stanley Kellams entertained the cast at their home. Cast included Marian Van Fossen Mary Adelaide Albaugh Paul Haworth Minard Stevens Margaret Oldfather and Melvin McBride with others such as Rev Mr and Mrs Ralph Hall Collis Arla Collis Shirley Jean Collis Mrs George McBride Henry Arp Jr and James Vernon attending onlookers.
A program of vocal and instrumental music will be given tonight at 8 in the auditorium of the Lincoln building by the music groups of Marion High School under the direction of Miss Rose Wilcox and G. L. Lyman.
