A body of an unidentified man, about 700 years old, was found along the eastbound North Western tracks near Rockford road and Crandie shops at 7:45 am. Investigators cited severe chest injuries from a blow but could not determine identity or cause. Witnesses reported seeing the man earlier walking toward Cedar Rapids.
Newby D. P. Marsh reports at 8 pm Wednesday two men bound him, drove him to J Street SW, and took $2, his watch, and his car. Federal agents joined New Jersey police in Woodbridge to probe the alleged kidnapping of Chester Hyde, 19, stepson of William Lella. Hyde has been missing since Monday night and reportedly is being held for ransom. Investigators arrived from the Philadelphia office to assist in the inquiry.
