Paving Cedar Valley Nature Trail Sparks Public Debate

At a Linn County hearing about spending 400000 to pave 3.6 miles of the Cedar Valley Nature Trail, about 150 people urged action or preservation. Supporters say paving boosts use and safety for cyclists and wheelchair riders, while opponents warn it harms nature and sets sweeping precedents. Conservation staff hope to present a paving recommendation by April 21. Local leaders and groups, including the Iowa Trails Council and Hawkeye Bicycle Association, weighed in amid calls to either pave to Center Point or maintain an unpaved, nature-focused surface.
