General Ridgway told 14 NATO nations they must integrate science production and military and civil know‑how to meet the Soviet challenge. He warned NATO armies will be deficient in many items for the foreseeable future and will press for needed forces. The meeting followed a five day secret defense test led by Field Marshal Montgomery.
In superior court an 18 year old Palo youth, Lyle Cronebarger, was fined 110 dollars plus costs for drunkenness and possessing a fraudulently altered driver license. He and a 17 year old companion were arrested near the A avenue viaduct with the engine running. The 17 year old paid 10 dollars and costs for drunkenness. Police found Cronebarger’s license showed erasures and he admitted altering it to buy beer.
Douglas Dorrince Dunvan 35 of Chelsea pled guilty to lascivious acts with a child and received a sentence not to exceed three years at Fort Madison penitentiary. The alleged act involved an eleven year old girl at Town theater on March 6. The girl reported the incident to the theater manager and Dunvan fled but was later arrested after a theater employee identified him.
David Hamor, 23, of 2424 O Avenue NW, pleaded guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Judge J E Heiserman delayed sentencing up to two years and ordered release on good conduct. Hamor was arrested Feb 27 by Cedar Rapids police after initially pleading innocent. He later changed to guilty in a case involving a 14 year old boy.
Herbert C. Mierson, 46, of Marion, was booked at the county jail for drunk driving after an erratic driving report by Deputy Sheriff Harry Ackerman. He was released on his own bond by County Attorney Willis Glassgow and ordered to appear in the county attorney's office Monday morning.
Judge Charles Penningroth awarded Frank and Bessie Sulek a mortgage foreclosure judgment filed December 6, 1952. The court ruled the Suleks claim superior to any claim by Rus sell B. Fishell against the Foreys after the Foreys did not appear in court.
A personal injury and damage lawsuit brought by Ray Potts against I Rhart was dismissed Saturday by Potts.
Elery A. Turner Friday files suit against Helen I. Perrin and Lee Perrin over possession of an automobile valued at $125. The petition asserts Turner owns the vehicle and the Perrins hold it due to default on payments under a conditional sales contract.
Betty Jane Butter sues actor Keenan Wynn in Los Angeles alleging mental and physical cruelty. The filing documents seek dissolution of marriage and support rulings.
A former Voice of America engineer testified that the wrong ship was chosen as a floating transmitter to push American propaganda behind the Iron Curtain. He said the Vagabond required rebuilding and that a navy escort carrier would have provided a far stronger signal at similar cost.
The Pentagon charged that Communist captors are forcing U.S. and U.N. prisoners to include propaganda in letters. Officials said prisoners are indoctrinated to sway public opinion and push for Communist armistice terms in Korea. About 2,200 Americans are officially known to be prisoners. Reds claim over 3,000.

Winners span junior and senior divisions across cello, violin, viola, string ensembles, brass, woodwind and percussion with numerous students from Roosevelt Franklin McKinley Wilson and other schools earning top honors.
Klement Gottwald led the Czech Communist Party from 1929 and became premier in 1946. He fled to Moscow during the 1939 invasion, spent World War II in exile, and returned to Prague to orchestrate the 1948 seizure of power. Parliament then elected him to lead the country.
A flash fire ripped through a three story brick building in Salem Massachusetts Friday night killing four residents. Fire crews battled the blaze and evacuated occupants as investigators began to determine the cause.
Dorothy W. Douglas, 63, former Smith College professor and ex-wife of Sen. Paul Douglas, told reporters she would answer questions about her beliefs before 1930 but declined to say if she was a Communist. She cited self incrimination concerns and said she would discuss only the period during her marriage to Douglas. The panel limited her to 15 minutes of testimony and denied her permission to read a 150 page statement.

DES MOINES AP The Iowa Senate approved a bill 32 to 7 to let county boards of supervisors adopt zoning plans for residential and commercial uses outside city limits. It expands existing rules from seven large counties to the entire state and was supported by Sen. Byers and Sen. Weichman who argued it would address problems outside Cedar Rapids and help smaller counties.
CHICAGO R Douglas Stuart 67 president of the Quaker Oats Company may be the next U S ambassador to Canada. A Washington report says President Eisenhower has selected this former Republican treasurer for the post at Ottawa now vacant. Stuart hesitates as he serves as Quaker president in place of Donald B Laurie who resigned to become undersecretary of state. Stuart has Canada background, starting as a sweeper in Quaker's Peterborough plant and is a director of the Canadian Consolidated Grain Company.
