Cedar Rapids school tax set to rise with revaluation
The Cedar Rapids School District proposes a 2007 budget with a 1 percent net tax increase due to home value gains from a decennial revaluation. The property tax rate drops from 15.25 to 14.90 per thousand, but higher home values push residential bills up. A $100,000 home would pay $3.60 more. a $1 million commercial property would save $473. The plan raises the income surtax from 5 to 6 percent, with offsetting changes in levy funding, and no staff cuts expected. The board meets at 7 p.m. April 12 to discuss and vote.
