Shuttle System Could Improve Flow of Grain
Des Moines AP Iowa Commerce Commission Chair Maurice Van Nostrand proposes a two part plan to speed grain and soybean movement. A shuttle rail system would move grain from regional elevators to Mississippi River barge points, then back for more. a second idea would route grain via a Midwest to West Coast grain railroad to serve ocean going vessels. The plan aims to relieve an ongoing boxcar shortage and aging facilities by using river and coastal transport while a long term solution is developed.
