New Trial Ordered in Iowa Slaying Case
Iowa Supreme Court overturned Michael Faught's 1961 murder conviction and ordered a retrial in Boone County. Faught, 19, a Mason City resident and epileptic patient, stabbed cook Jessie Zenor 53 during breakfast at Hemlock Cottage, Woodward School. The court cited improper limits on mental retardation evidence and restricted juror contact with officials during deliberations. Retrial to address these issues and the indeterminate sentence constraint was ordered.
