In Oakland California 21 percent year old Gary Roethler born with internal organs in his left lung is recovering after a rare surgery. A surgeon found he had breathed with one lung since birth as three ribs were removed and organs including stomach spleen and intestines moved to the left lung. The heart had been displaced to the right side. The operation used fascia from the mother. The patient is the son of Leander Roethler a sailor stationed at San Diego.
Lisbon physician and war veteran Dr John R Gardner announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination as a Linn county state representative in the June primaries. A former Lisbon mayor and school board president, he is a lieutenant colonel in the medical reserve and presides over the Linn County Medical Society.
