Freeman Seeks Cancellation of Freight Rate Increase
Secretary of Agriculture Orville Freeman asks the ICC to cancel the 300 million dollar freight rate hike for railroads. He argues the ICC miscalculated increased costs from wages and saddled agriculture with about 130 million of the higher charges, despite farmers' small share of rail tonnage. The petition notes agriculture bears 42 percent of the new revenue while farm products account for less than 24 percent of 1965 tonnage.
