Farm income in 1963 shows higher receipts but rising costs

The 1963 agri culture department review shows net farm income at 12.3 billion, down 3 percent from 1962, while cash receipts from farm marketings rose to a record 36.2 billion. Production expenses increased by 600 million, and the number of farms fell to a record low amid mixed state changes in net income per farm.

Belgian Secretary Sees Belgian Draft Horse Comeback

Belgian Secretary Blanche A. Schmalzried says draft horses show strong growth from 171 registrations in 1952 to over 500 last year and over 200 this year so far. She spoke in Cedar Rapids during the Tri-State Draft Horse Breeders Assn show and sale at Hawkeye Downs. The comeback is aided by younger enthusiasts and renewed competition at national events. Champions at the Tri-State Show included Oakland's Don as grand champion stallion and other winners in the grade divisions. the annual sale followed at Hawkeye Downs Youth Center.
