Peters and Tague Fail to Reach Final in Chicago Gloves

Cedar Rapids entrants Sammy Peters and Russel Tague fell in the semi finals of the Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions. Tague was stopped by Ples Gilmore of Toledo in the 126 pound semis, while Peters was knocked out by Sonny Ingram of Memphis in the middleweight bout. Gilmore later beat Alvis Hunter for the 126 crown as Los Angeles won the team title amid a large crowd of 17 246.

Davenport Maquoketa rallied in the final period to defeat Tipton 38 36 for the class A district final. Clark led Maquoketa with 19 points while Reeder totaled 11 for Tipton. Keystone defeated Scarsboro 39 35 in class B with Posusta and Weise on top for the winners. Winthrop beat Dundee 38 30 to reach the class B sub state.
