Harrington Wins Election Contest in North Iowa District
Washington AP reports the House elections committee recommended Vincent Harrington to continue as North Iowa district representative in the 76th Congress after finding no grounds for a recount. It ruled 70 WPA camp voters in Okoboji illegal but not enough to alter the district results. Swanson failed to prove misconduct or utilize Iowa contest law. Official 1938 returns had Harrington ahead 46,705 to 46,366, with Swanson later filing 52 counts of irregularities across Woodbury Monona and Dickinson counties. Swanson’s hearing focused on Woodbury and Dickinson counties.
