Marion seeks veterans memorial with brick wall design
Fund drive began last year for a $50 000 memorial to veterans in Marion. Volunteers sell inscribed memorial bricks for names ranks and dates of service. Granite monuments with branch flags will be the centerpiece designed by Bonnie Duckett. Plans include lighting benches and a walkway. The project aims to honor local veterans killed in war, with engraving on the monuments. A Civil War statue remains the city’s only war memorial. The region also runs a raffle for a patriotic quilt by the Eastern Iowa Heirloom Quilters.
