Postal Chief Warns of Budget Crunch Threatening Service

He calls the Postal Reorganization Act of 1970 precarious and says a $920 million subsidy is needed over two to three years to avoid rate hikes or fewer services. Bailar cites rising delivery points, costly door delivery, stagnant productivity, and potential post office closings as reasons for the bleak outlook. He questions six day delivery and front door mail, warning of a negative equity of $1.3 billion by year end and possible borrowing to cover payroll unless Congress approves more funding.
